Accounting can be a challenge when transactions are varying amounts and fractions on the dollar. In RedPodium, we have a setting that automatically passes on all RedPodium fees and credit card fees to your buyers. This covers your online registration costs and simplifies the accounting process to provide you with the face value of your registrations, resulting in whole-dollar payouts.
Pro Tip: When passing fees to your customers, the total fee includes the standard RedPodium fee ($0.99 per paid registrant), plus 3.5% applied to each item and the RedPodium fee.
When using the setting to pass on fees, our system rounds up processing fees to 3.5% to reliably issue face value deposits across all uses of RedPodium.

3 Important Notes
The setting to pass on all fees to buyers is only available when processing through Webconnex Payments. We do not recommend using this setting with a custom payment processor. This is because Webconnex Payments allows for subtracting fees from the transaction directly prior to payout. If you are using your own payment processor, this feature will charge the buyer more, but the full transaction amount will go to you and we will not be able to provide deposits net of fees.
We strongly recommend removing any other fees from your page when using this feature to avoid over-charing your customers.
The payment processing fee is increased by .6% to cover the $0.30 per transaction fee on Webconnex Payments transactions and properly cover every scenario and calculation (this is charged to the buyer, not you).

Your event can choose to turn on the setting to pass fees on to your registrants, or absorb the fees yourself. Below is a breakdown of the fees registrants pay when your event passes on the fees to buyers, as well as the fees your event will pay if you choose to absorb them.

Absorbing Fee Calculation
Absorbing Fee Calculation
When choosing to absorb the fees, the standard RedPodium fee is $0.99 per paid registrant. Webconnex Payments charges 2.9% + $.30 for all credit card transactions.
Here are a few examples of how to calculate the fees that are charged to your event when choosing to absorb the fees.
Example 1: Fees for One $50 Registration
Example 1: Fees for One $50 Registration
The registrant purchases a $50 registration option for your event. Here is a breakdown of the fee your event will pay when choosing to absorbs the fees.
RedPodium Fee: $0.99
Credit Card Fee: $1.75 [(2.9% * 50) + 0.30]
Total Fees: $2.74 ($0.99 + $1.75)
Total Payout After Fees: $47.26
Pro Tip: If you plan to absorb the fees by increasing your registration price, we recommend setting the price slightly higher than the combined RedPodium and Webconnex Payments fees to ensure you receive the full intended payout.
This is because both the RedPodium fee and credit card processing fee are calculated on the total order amount. For example, if you raise a $50 registration to $52.74, your RedPodium fee would be $0.99 and credit card fees would be $1.83, totaling $2.82 in fees. Your net payout would then be $49.92—not the full $50.
This is where the setting to pass on fees helps. It automatically applies a flat, predictable percentage to ensure you always receive the full face value of your registration price, keeping your payouts accurate and accounting simple.

Example 2: Fees for Two $50 Registrations
A buyer registers two people for your event. Both registrants purchase a $50 registration, for a total order of $100. Here is a breakdown of the fees your event will pay when choosing to absorb the fees.
RedPodium Fee for One Registration: $0.99
RedPodium Fee for Two Registrations: $1.98 ($0.99 * 2)
Credit Card Fee: $3.20 [(2.9% * 100) + 0.30]
Total Fees: $5.18 ($1.98 + $3.2)
Total Payout After Fees: $94.82
Pro Tip: If you plan to absorb the fees by increasing your registration price, we recommend setting the price slightly higher than the combined RedPodium and Webconnex Payments fees to ensure you receive the full intended payout.
This is because both the RedPodium fee and credit card processing fee are calculated on the total order amount. For example, if you raise each $50 registration option to $52.59, your RedPodium fees would total $1.98 ($0.99 for each registration) and credit card fees would be $3.35, totaling $5.33 in fees. Your net payout would then be $99.85 — not the full $100.
This is where the setting to pass on fees helps. It automatically applies a flat, predictable percentage to ensure you always receive the full face value of your registration price, keeping your payouts accurate and accounting simple.

For example, if you raise the price of an $185 order to $191.66, your RedPodium fee would be $0.99 and credit card fees would be $5.86, totaling $6.85 in fees. Your net payout would then be $184.81 — not the full $185.
This is where the setting to pass on fees helps. It automatically applies a flat, predictable percentage to ensure you always receive the full face value of your registration price, keeping your payouts accurate and accounting simple.

How does the setting to pass on fees to buyers work when a customer pays using a payment plan?
How does the setting to pass on fees to buyers work when a customer pays using a payment plan?
When using a payment plan, the fees passed on to buyers are split evenly between each payment. In addition, the scheduled payment fee is added to every scheduled payment that automatically processed.
To calculate the fees passed on, first calculate the payment plan installment schedule and the passed on fees for the order. From there, split any passed on fees between each payment in the order. Here is an example of how to calculate a buyer's final payment amounts when fees are passed on with payment plans.
1. Calculate the Pre-Fee Payment Schedule

3. Calculate the Fees for Each Payment in the Payment Plan
3. Calculate the Fees for Each Payment in the Payment Plan
After calculating the pre-fee payment schedule (step 1) and the passed on fees for the order (step 2), you can calculate what the buyer pays on each payment after all fees.
To calculate the payment after all fees, split the passed on fees for the order by the number of payments in the plan. Then add the scheduled payment fee to all future scheduled payments. Here is an example of how to calculate this:
1. Split the Passed on Fees Across Each Payment
To split the fees, divide the Total Passed on Fees for the order by the number of payments in the plan, including the deposit payment.
In this example, there are 6 total payments in the plan, including the deposit payment.
Fee Share Per Payment: Total Passed on Fees for the Order ÷ Number of Payments
Fee Share Per Payment: $29.17 ÷ 6
Fee Share Per Payment: $4.86, with a $0.01 remainder
The $0.01 remainder is added to the deposit, for a deposit fee of $4.87
Note: If the fees break out evenly between the scheduled payments, the fees are divided evenly.
If the fees do not split exactly evenly between the number of payments, RedPodium will add the difference to the initial deposit total, so each of the future scheduled payment fees are even. The overage is applied to the first deposit payment.
2. Add the Scheduled Payment Fee
A flat $0.99 Scheduled Payment Fee is added to each payment after the deposit. The deposit does not receive this fee.
3. Calculate Final Payment Amounts
Date | Pre-Fee Amount | Fee Share | Scheduled Payment Fee | Total Due |
April 14 (deposit payment) | $129.20 | $4.87 |
| $134.07 |
May 14 | $129.16 | $4.86 | $0.99 | $135.01 |
June 14 | $129.16 | $4.86 | $0.99 | $135.01 |
July 14 | $129.16 | $4.86 | $0.99 | $135.01 |
August 14 | $129.16 | $4.86 | $0.99 | $135.01 |
September 14 (final payment) | $129.16 | $4.86 | $0.99 | $135.01 |
