Add Memberships to Your Page

Add memberships and set up actions for your members to ensure a seamless membership experience

Written by Maddy

RedPodium gives you full control over what memberships are offered on each registration page. You can choose which membership levels to display and customize whether registrants can purchase, renew, or verify a membership directly on that page. You can also decide if a membership is required to register or if memberships are offered as an optional add-on.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to add and customize membership options for your registration page, set up actions for your members, and experience the registrant experience so you can create a seamless membership flow.

Pro Tip: Before you can add a membership option on your registration page, you must configure the membership levels on your account. Click here to learn how to set up your membership levels and manage your members.

Add and Customize a Membership Field on Your Registration Page

RedPodium lets you easily add a Membership field to your page so customers can purchase, verify, or renew a membership during the registration process. You can create customizable membership levels with their own pricing and settings, giving you flexible control over how memberships are offered on your pages.

  • From the Pages screen, click the pencil icon under the page you want to edit

  • Scroll below the header, and click the green + icon where you want to add the field

  • Select the Member Manager field

  • Enter a Label for your Membership field

  • Toggle the Required field to Yes or No

  • Add the Type of membership field you want to offer

    • The Purchase & Verify option allows individuals to either purchase a new membership, or verify their valid membership

    • The Purchase option only allows individuals to purchase a new membership

    • The Verify option only allows individuals to verify their current valid membership

    • The Purchase & Renew option allows individuals to either purchase a new membership, or renew their previous, expired membership

Note: If a membership level is toggled to No, it will not appear as a purchase option on the registration page, and RedPodium will not validate that membership level on the page.

  • Turn on the membership level(s) you want to offer on the page by toggling on the level

  • Click Done

  • Click Save Now in the upper-right corner of your page to save your changes. Click Publish to publish these changes to your live page

Collect Member Names

In RedPodium, you can collect a separate name for each member. This allows the member name to differ from the registrant or billing name.

Pro Tip: The name displayed on the membership depends on your page setup. RedPodium uses the first available name in the following order:

  • Member Name: If your page collects member names and the purchaser enters one, this name appears on the membership

  • Registrant Name: If no member name is entered, RedPodium uses the registrant name when your page collects a name for each registrant

  • Billing Name: If neither a member name nor a registrant name is available, RedPodium uses the billing name

  • From the Pages screen, click the pencil icon under the page you want to edit

  • Scroll to your membership field

  • Click the pencil icon to edit the field

  • Click Advanced Options

  • Toggle on First & Last Name Fields to collect member names

  • Click Done

  • Click Save Now in the upper-right corner of your page to save your changes. Click Publish to publish these changes to your live page

Note: When you enable the option to collect member names, the name field is optional for non-gifted memberships and cannot be required. If someone purchases a membership as a gift, the member name is required. Learn more about gifted memberships here.

Allow Gifted Memberships

In RedPodium, you can allow purchasers to gift memberships through your registration page, making it easy for them to purchase membership benefits for friends, family members, or colleagues.

Pro Tip: Gifted memberships work the same as other memberships, but have a few small differences.

  • Member name and email are required: The purchaser must provide the recipient’s name and email address. The recipient will receive a membership email containing their member number.

  • Auto-renew is disabled: The purchaser’s card is not saved to the membership, so the gifted membership cannot renew automatically. This applies even when auto-renew is required for the membership level.

  • From the Pages screen, click the pencil icon under the page you want to edit

  • Scroll to your membership field

  • Click the pencil icon to edit the field

  • Click Advanced Options

  • Toggle on "This is a Gift" Checkbox" to allow gifted memberships

  • Click Done

  • Click Save Now in the upper-right corner of your page to save your changes. Click Publish to publish these changes to your live page

Note: Currently, purchasers cannot include a custom gift message for the membership recipient.

Set Actions that Apply for Your Members

Once your Memberships are set up, you can begin creating automated actions that respond to a customer’s membership status. These actions can trigger when someone adds a valid membership, holds a specific membership level, renews an existing membership, or signs up as a brand-new member. This gives you powerful control over what customers see and how their experience adapts based on their membership journey.

Best Practices for Offering Memberships on Your Pages

On July 14, 2025, a new Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rule was supposed to go into effect for any business selling or offering auto-renewing memberships. That rule was struck down by an appellate court and it will not be enforced. However, following the three steps below are still best practices for your customers. We'd encourage you to consider updating your pages.

Here are three steps you should take:

  • Disable "Require Auto-Renewal"

If you are using the auto-renew feature in memberships, you should turn off the require auto-renew. This rule requires customers to give consent (check the box) to opt-in. The checkbox should not be automatically selected.

  • Enable Account Center

Customers will need to be able to cancel their memberships at any time using your page. Enabling Account Center allows your customers to easily do this and provides links in confirmation emails. Click here to learn how to enable the Account Center in RedPodium.

  • Enable A Link In Header/Banner Controls

Your customers will need a way to access the Account Center from your page. Follow the steps below. Click here to learn how to enable the Account Center login link on your RedPodium pages.

Pro Tip: RedPodium has automatically updated our current opt-in field language to be more helpful for your customers. They will see this additional text whenever the "auto-renew" option is enabled on a membership field.

Please auto-renew my membership. I understand the membership fee will be charged based on the frequency above. I can cancel my membership by creating an online account or with links provided in my confirmation email.

FAQs

Does RedPodium send members an email before their membership expires if they haven’t opted in to auto-renew their membership?

Yes. If a member has not opted in to auto-renewal, RedPodium sends them an email 20 days before their membership expires. The email lets them know their membership is about to expire and directs them to contact you with any questions.

Pro Tip: The pre-expiration email sent to members is standard and cannot be customized at this time.

Can I test validating a member in Preview mode?

No, you cannot test validating a membership in Preview mode. We recommend testing this functionality on a live page. If you try to validate a membership on RedPodium, the system will display "Oops.... data: record not found" when you submit an order with a membership.

Can I offer memberships in multiple different currencies on 1 RedPodium page?

No. A RedPodium page can currently support memberships in only one currency. The Member Manager field will only display memberships in your page's set currency. Membership levels and pages cannot be priced in multiple currencies.

If someone purchases a membership in RedPodium, can they validate it on a RegFox or TicketSpice page?

Yes! Memberships apply across RedPodium, RegFox, and TicketSpice. A membership purchased in RedPodium can be validated seamlessly on RegFox and TicketSpice as well.

Do we send members an email when they sign up or renew as a member?

When someone purchases or renews a membership on your live registration page, they will receive an email with their membership information. This membership info email is sent in addition to the standard confirmation email sent to registrations after registering on your RedPodium page.

The membership info email includes the selected membership level, member ID, membership status, and expiration date. The email has the subject line: "[Your Organization Name] Your {Membership Level} Membership Information."

This membership email is system-generated and cannot be customized, and recipients cannot reply to the email. If needed, you can resend the membership information email to members at any time. Click here to learn how to resend this email.

Can I resend the membership email with the individual's membership number?

Yes, you can resend the membership email that contains their membership information at any time.

  • From the top menu bar, hover over the Extras tab

  • Select Memberships from the dropdown

  • Select the Members tab on the left-hand side

Pro Tip: You can filter your members by the membership level they selected, the status of the membership, or the day the member signed up for the membership.

  • Search for the member using their name or email in the search box

  • Click the eye icon on the member you want to view

  • Click the ... (ellipsis) icon in the top right corner

  • Select Resend Membership Info Email

Pro Tip: Membership details in the membership info email such as the membership level, member ID, status, and expiration date are updated at the time you send the email, so they always reflect the most current information.
